shipping: house servant, reads, no relatives in colony; descendant found her baptism at Monasterevan, Co Kildare, 26 Nov 1830; empl. by Joseph Vickey at Waverley, £10, 1 year; married free immigrant Henry Parker March 1856 in Sydney; 5 children; Eliza and her husband both had issues with alcohol but Eliza was the worst offender resulting in court appearances for obscene and/or insulting language, assault, vagrancy, prostitution, disorderly conduct etc. sometimes resulting in time in Darlinghurst Gaol; in 1864 her husband reported her to the police for hitting her daughter with a broom [SMH, 27 Oct 1864 p.2 & other references in the press]; 5 of their children admitted to Newcastle Industrial school in 1867, Henry Parker was described as 'respectable residing in Devonshire St', but Eliza was a 'dissipated character' [SRNSW 4/601, 67/4935]; tracing Eliza's life has been complicated but great work has been undertaken by a Newcastle researcher and a descendant; The last possible mention of Eliza is on 15 July 1870 when Elizabeth aka Eliza Jones, born Dublin, ship ‘Duchess of Peel’ [sic] was sent to Darlinghurst Gaol. All indications are that Eliza is very likely to be the Elizabeth Parker who died on 16 Nov 1870 in the Sydney Infirmary, occupation - laundress, age 39, born Ireland [1244/1870]; buried Rookwood
