She must have been sent to Maitland for employment and on 17 & 28 Mar 1849 reports in 'The Maitland Mercury & Hunter River General Advertiser' on an incident where Mary Geary, an orphan girl engaged at Mr Long's farm on Mrs Cobb's estate, was 'enveloped in flames' while removing a pot from the fire. She was taken to Maitland hospital but died there on Thursday 22 Mar 1849 from severe burns.
