- on list of 50 girls from Longford PLU minutes Dec 1848 as no 45 Anne Hughes, aged 17; shipping: children's maid, reads only, no relatives in colony; Im.Cor. 49/250 Goulburn. By 6 Oct 1849 Ann Hughes working as housemaid for John Edge JP at Goulburn and she was charged with petty larceny and with leaving Mr Edge’s service to go to Goulburn without his consent. Edge refused to have her back; Ann remained in the Goulburn area where she married the first of her 4 and possibly 5 husbands: marr 1) James Yore in 1851 who died in 1852, 2 ch; marr 2) William Hancock in 1852; de facto 3) George Bartlett; marr 4) Henry Johnston 1876; 9 or 11 children born to Ann Hughes (alias Yore, Hancock, Bartlett) between 1850-73; no death confirmed for Ann Hughes but it seems she remained in the Parkes area of NSW.
