- shippping: house servant, cannot read or write. To Portland, VPRS 115 Superintendent Correspondence inwards, vol 2, 49/340, 1 Nov 1849 from Police Magistrate, Portland. Mary hired by Thomas Kean, Coxswain of the Customs Boat and soon after was attacked by a disease of the spine as a result of an injury she received on the Pemberton. She consequently lost the use of her limbs and her mistress, having a young family, was unable to care for her. Result 'The poor girl must be cared for somehow...'. Admitted to Melbourne Benevolent Asylum in Dec 1849, died there in 1898.
