Dr Fletcher, Murray Rd. £8 12 months; Tuam Herald 1 Dec 1849 reported Winnefred Roache a house servant to Mrs Gloster, at Melbourne; married 1) Parkhurst exile Irishman Henry Cowell, 1850 in Sydney, moved to Ballarat 1852, 5 children; deserted by Henry who died in New Zealand in 1863; 2) lived with Irishman John Thompson in Ballarat in 1859, 8 children (so had 13 children in 20 years). John died in 1875; 4 youngest children sent to orphanage; Winifred moved to Tilpa near Wilcannia in western NSW about 1880 & ran the 'Wee Water Hotel'; married 3) James Colypreast [various spellings] near Wilcannia 1893, they moved to Menzies in WA in 1895 where she opened refreshment rooms. James Colypreast moved back to Tilpa NSW shortly thereafter and Winifred remained in Menzies WA where she died and was buried in 1908. book by descendant is 'Winifred's Story: the family story of an Irish orphan's descendants', Mt Ommaney, Qld, c.2004.
