- shipping: house servant, reads. Empl. Thomas Hassett, Little Collins St., Melbourne £9, 12 months; enquiry 16 Sep 1851: Johanna McGregor of Queen Street, Sydney sent a desperate letter to Colonial Secretary seeking her half-sister, Bridget Ryan (or Bridget Conneen), whom she was recently told, arrived in the colony two years earlier. Johanna advertised in all the papers seeking her sister. She felt unable to write to their mother back in Drum, Tipperary, until she was able to reassure her that Bridget was alright. The response from Immigration Dept to Johanna advised her that Bridget Ryan arrived on the Pemberton in 1849 and was employed by Thomas Hassett, milkman, living in Collins Street; married John Bryan in 1850 and had a son to him. Bridget and John, when last heard of, were living with a Mr Kerr who was a sheep holder in the Geelong area. Mail could be addressed to Mr M. McKern, Publican, Geelong or to Thomas Hassett.
