- Details
- Trevor McClaughlin supplied the names of a number of possible Roman Emperor orphans who came from workhouses in Castlederg (Co. Tyrone) Larne (Co. Antrim) & Magherafelt (Co. Londonderry). Eliza is recorded as being 'in fever' and 'sickly' when she entered Magherafelt workhouse on 28 Jan 1848; she left 10 Jul 1848, perhaps to join the 'Roman Emperor'. Officially 21 young women came from Magherafelt workhouse & 8 from Larne. This girl has not been located in any South Australian records so perhaps was not on the Roman Emperor.
