- On list of passengers in South Australian Register, 9 Jun 1849; could have unclaimed letter waiting 1850; Jan 1856, stole articles at the Freemasons Tavern from her master, Samuel Mason-committed for trial, sent to gaol; 1864 Mary Costello alias Begg charged with being drunk & incapable of caring for herself–gaol for 7 days, unable to pay 20s fine; 1867 drunk, discharged with a caution; 1877 drunk in streets of Mount Gambier-gaol for 24 hours & again in 1878 as ‘an old woman’, no visible means of support; Dec 1878 begging-recommended to be sent to Destitute Asylum, the Police Magistrate saying if she wasn’t admitted he would have to send her to gaol for her own protection; Sep 1879 again begging, having just come out of the Catholic Refuge-recommended she return or go to gaol; July 1881 charged begging at Norwood-dismissed with caution; Mar 1882 gaol for 2 months for vagrancy, later that year fined 10s for drunkenness; then disappears
