Details
On list of passengers in 'South Australian Register', 9 Jun 1849 as Cornoy; as Ann Curnow, aged 24, possibly married 36 year old widower Leyshon Jones on 26 May 1853 at St John’s Adelaide; 5 children 1854-67; in 1850 at least, he worked as foreman of works at the Patent Copper Company at Kooringa & by 1873 had managed the Wallaroo Smelting Works for ten years and was an active member of the local Welsh Church. By the mid-1870s work was scarce and he was declared insolvent in 1876; Ann died ‘very suddenly’ aged 47 on 21 Jun 1882 at Daly near Wallaroo ‘while lifting some clothes on a sofa she fell down in a fit of apoplexy, and never again recovered consciousness’ (several reports in newspapers including The Express & Telegraph, 24 Jun 1882); Leyshon Jones died 4 Feb 1889 in North Adelaide. Connection to the orphan girl still needs confirmation.
