In 1872 during a violent argument Mary stabbed & killed her husband, sentenced Mudgee QS to Gaol 6 months for manslaughter; after release from Darlinghurst gaol, she raised her children alone in Sydney. In 1887, now calling herself 'Edith', she took an accidental overdose of chlorodyne.
