Maughan [? sic], was charged with keeping bad company, and other immoral conduct. A neighhour informed her mistress that she had seen a man come out of the girl’s room at five o'clock in the morning; Mrs. M. called her in, and told her she must have her indentures cancelled, as she could not keep her. The girl replied in a most impertinent manner, ‘indeed, I want to return to the barracks,’ and immediately afterwards absconded ; she was brought before the Court, and the indentures cancelled.'
