Christmas and New Year Wishes

23/12/2024

On behalf of the Committee of The Great Irish Famine Commemoration Committee Inc., I wish our members, sponsors, collaborators, and supporters a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you for your continuing interest and support of the association this year. We would particularly like to thank Consul General Rosie Keane and her team at the Consulate General of Ireland, Sydney for their support during 2024 and in arranging the August Commemoration.
In 2025, it will be 30 years since the visit to Sydney by the then President of Ireland, Mary Robinson who encouraged members of the Irish community and diaspora in Australia not to forget the impact of the Great Irish Famine, and strive to eliminate famine in the world. This was the instigation of activities by hundreds of people before us, many of whom have passed, which led to the design, selection, construction and unveiling of the Australian Monument to the Great Irish Famine. As we gather this Festive Season, let us not forget the past and present challenges in our communities near and far.
In the New Year, the Committee will be providing an update to members on recent activities of the refreshed Committee since the Commemoration held in August 2024.
Merry Christmas.
Patrick Corr
President, GIFCC Inc.
