“The Truth Behind the Irish Famine” – 1845 – 1852
This is a new publication by Jerry Mulvihill, an Irish author, who has written extensively on the Irish Famine. It is a coffee-table size book containing 72 paintings by six artists, drawings and photographs depicting famine scenes; the text provides an overall history of Ireland pre-famine, the famine years and the aftermath. The history is supported by numerous quotes from a wide range of people who experienced or observed the famine as it happened. While there is a chapter on emigration, the subject is covered broadly and focuses mainly on America.
Jerry’s book provides a worthwhile introduction to the history of the famine in Ireland.
